It's that time of the year again... a month which all developers have been waiting for every year to celebrate and contribute to Open Source. It's HACKtoberfest!
This year is special because different tech communities in Cebu City, Philippines have come together to bring #hacktoberfest to our humble side of the globe. We’re bringing you Cebu Hacktoberfest 2020.
Cebu Hacktoberfest is a month-long celebration of Open Source. We will have 3 events for the entire month:
Oct 1, Thursday, 8PM - 10PM - Opening/Kick off
PROGRAM:
8:00 - 8:20 - Hacktoberfest by Cebu Tech Communities (share the communities involved, mechanics and what to expect for this month)
8:20 - 8:40 - TALK: Why Contribute to Open Source and the benefits
- Franchette Camoro - Full Stack Developer, Symph
8:40 - 9: 10 - Your First Contribution (Demo how to PR and Git Basics)
- Neriah “BJ” Ato - Software Engineer, Full Scale
9:10 - 9:30 - Share your experience - participants with experience in Open Source contribution
9:30 - 9:50 - QA
9:50 - 10:00 - Closing/Awarding of Social Media Winners/Group Photo
Oct 17, Saturday, 8PM - 10PM - Mid-month/Participants Checkup
PROGRAM:
Chill Sesh, Casual Session, One facilitator, Participants will raise their concerns and ask help from the communities, Open Discussion
Oct 31, Saturday, 1PM - 3PM - Culmination

1:10 - 1:20 - Community Introduction: The communities behind Cebu Hacktoberfest 2020
1:20 - 1:50 - Show and tell - participants share their Hacktoberfest 2020 experience
1:50 - 2:20 - TALK: Next steps: creating your own open source projects, libraries, contributing more to open source
2:20 - 2:30 - Awarding of WInners for the 2nd Social Media Contest
2:30 - 2:40 - Closing/Group Photo

About Hacktoberfest:
Hacktoberfest — brought to you by DigitalOcean in partnership with Dev & Intel — is a month-long celebration of open source software. Maintainers are invited to guide would-be contributors towards issues that will help move the project forward, and contributors get the opportunity to give back to both projects they like and others they've just discovered. No contribution is too small — bug fixes and documentation updates are valid ways of participating.
Participating Communities include Angular Cebu, AWS User Group Central Visayas, Cebu Game Dev, Cebu WordPress Meetup, Facebook Developers Circle Cebu City, Google Developers Group Cebu, JavaScript Cebu, Laravel Cebu, PizzaPy Python Users Group Cebu, React Cebu, Vue Cebu among others.
